Our tutorial takes place outside Hotel Ta’Cenc and when we are ready, we immediately head to the scenic gravelled road overlooking Gozo’s central villages, including Xewkija’s Rotunda church, Ta’ Gordan lighthouse and Marsalforn’s ‘Salvatur’ amongst our views. As we continue gliding on our Segways, we will start seeing the islands of Comino and Malta, the two other islands in the Maltese archipelago right in front of us. There will be plenty of opportunities to take postcard photos during this short and sweet tour.
Kantra Bay and nearby Mgarr ix-Xini were recently home to Hollywood heart-throbs Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie during the filming of their latest blockbuster ‘By the Sea’!

This tour departs from Santa Lucija, Gozo’s smallest and oldest village. From here we head south, and will soon stumble upon the farming areas surrounding St Raphael lake. Surrounded by two of the most picturesque bays in Gozo, Xlendi to the left and Dwejra to the right, this is arguably one of the most inspiring spots on the island, rich in flora and fauna.
After a brief stop at the lake, where we stop to feed the residential ducks, goldfish and the occasional frog, we head east towards the most peaceful spot in Gozo – lush green Lunzjata Valley!
Time required: about 1hour 30minutes
Distance: 8km
Price: €25
Start/Finish: Pjazza Santa Lucija
Our training session takes place in the newly revamped Pjazza San Guzepp (Qala square), one of the main touristic hubs on the island. As soon as everyone is confident with their segway, we head up the hill to Triq il-Mithna, and are welcomed by the mouth watering smell of an old wood stove bakery, one of the last remaining on the island. Here we can stop to buy some freshly baked traditional “Qaghaq” (sweet sesame rings).
This route will take us out of the urban area and into a beautiful local farming zone called Ta’ Tocc. This relatively unexplored part of the island, situated on its very eastern tip, enjoys some of the most spectacular views of both the North coast and the Gozo channel, and on a clear day it is not unusual to see the island of Sicily on the horizon!
Pjazza San Kurraw is our next pit stop before proceeding down the road leading to Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay. The crystalline water, identical to the Blue lagoon of nearby Comino, makes Hondoq Bay very popular amongst the locals especially in summer-time.
Heading back up, and before re-entering Qala Square, we take a detour to Triq il-Wardija, and the island of Comino is within touching distance from here. Further down, Triq ic-Cawl is arguably one of the most breathtaking streets in Gozo.
OPTIONAL ROUTE
Start/Finish: Mgarr Harbour – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Start your tour from Mgarr Harbour and add some postcard photos to your tour when passing through the stunning Belvedere overlooking the Harbour. Along the way up the hill to Qala, we will also take time to visit the beautiful Yacht Marina in Mgarr, Fort Chambray and the popular all year round Christmas Village called ‘Bethlehem’ in Ghajnsielem which attracts tens of thousands of visitors in the Christmas month.

We meet in the main square of Gharb, one of the quietest neighbourhoods in Gozo. In fact here is known for the many beautiful farmhouses surrounded green fields and stunning views, far away from the cities’ hustle and bustle. As soon as you learn how to manoeuvre your Segway, we will head to the outskirts of Gharb, and after about 20 minutes of silently gliding through the lush green fields, we arrive at San Dimitri Chapel. Here we take a short break for a visit to this mythical chapel and surroundings.
We hop on our Segways once again, and after some time we arrive at Wied il-Mielah, one of the most beautiful walking routes in Gozo, and the island’s second, and lesser known ‘window’.
After a short stop for a stroll down the stairs to see the natural stone window, we glide towards Wied l-Ghasri Valley, stopping every now and then to take in the beautiful surroundings, including the many natural cave formations, and to do some foraging for any wild edible plants in season, slowly making our way back to Gharb pjazza, and right below our feet, in the middle of the square, we see a sun-dial, the first form of time-keeping used by our ancestors. By means of this sun-dial, one can see the time of the day indicated by his shadow.

We depart from Marsalforn Bay and glide all along the coastline of this popular tourist resort to Qbajjar bay, before reaching one of Gozo’s top landmarks – the Salt Pans in Xwejni Bay.
Gliding along on our Segways, with the fresh sea breeze hitting our faces, we pass by local reel fisherman trying their luck fishing for tuna, amberjack, or local delicacy ‘lampuki’ (depending on the season) and before we know it we soon arrive to Wied l-Ghasri.
Here we can take time to walk down to this beautiful bay and have a relaxing break… and why not freshen up in the crystalline sea! An optional diversion (not included – please ask tour leader) up the steep but lovely passage leading to the lighthouse will provide you with a stunning 360degree panorama view of the whole island.
For the final leg of our tour we pass beneath the hillside village of Zebbug and continue downhill through the picturesque valley known as ‘Wied l-infern’, before returning to Marsalforn Bay.

We start this beautiful half day excursion from our base in Xewkija square. Heading north, we glide through a lush green valley situated between the steep hills of Xaghra and Nadur, where we will visit a local horse petting farm and pick some wild fruits in season, such as asparagus, pomegranates and prickly pears. And without knowing, we have arrived at the most popular bay in Gozo! Ramla il-Hamra, which literally translates to ‘red sand’, is the largest sandy bay on the island, spread with golden sand dunes and shallow crystalline waters. In the hot summer months we can dip in for a nice refreshing swim!
Mixta cave is our next destination. You will see why this is the most photographed location on the island! Following a short break to admire the breathtaking scenery, we head to Nadur – one of Gozo’s famous three hills and home to three of the most beautiful bays on the island, namely Dahlet Qorrot, San Blas and Ramla. Nadur is also the place to go to if you’re looking for an authentic traditional culinary experience in one of the iconic wood stove bakeries. And that’s exactly what we will do! Here we will get to taste a mouth watering ‘Maltese Ftira‘!
Heading across town, in a few minutes we arrive at the ‘Belvedere’ – a stunning place on the eastern edge of Nadur hill, enjoying a spectacular view of the islands in the Maltese Archipelago. We spend some relaxing time here to soak up the beautiful ambiance before heading back home.
